Biology
Education:
PhD, Physics (jointly with Biomedical Informatics), The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 2007|MS, Physics, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 2004|B.Tech., Engineering Physics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India 1999
Fellowship Type:
Scientist D, CoE-E
Research:
Bio-informatics|One aspect of my research is related to building algorithms for analyzing high throughput sequencing (next generation sequencing) data. In particular, I am interested in finding binding sites for transcription factors that regulate gene activity and finding clusters of transcription factor binding sites.|Another part of my research is on correlating genotypes with phenotypes. I develop methods that can be used to associate a genotype (sequence data) with phenotype (physical traits) while taking the phylogenetic history of the organisms under consideration into account. I am mining datasets of mutational history implied by phylogenetic trees for concurrent changes in phenotype and genotype among lineages to identify candidate loci for phenotypic traits.|Recently, along with Satyajeet Khare, I have developed a human histone infobase which is a compilation of infomation about human histone variants, sites of their post-translational modifications and about various histone modifying enzymes.
Awards and Honours:
Departmental Fellowship, merit-based one year fellowship for graduate study at The Ohio State University, 1999|National Talent Search Scholarship, given by Government of India, 1992
